Let's Go Outside

Although British Summer Time (BST) is not officially over until 30th October (can't quite believe this), the weather in England throughout July before I went on holiday and the majority of August has been absolutely monstrous. Wind, rain, grey skies, cold legs.. the lot! It seems like we have hardly had any summer at all. But, I vow not to hide away my tan and continue to wear summer dresses and sandals as opposed to the coats, jeans and boots the rest of those who have given into the horrible weather have been sporting over the past week the weather has been at it's worst. I'm not sure if you are aware, but the British have a tendency and are historically known to moan about the weather far too much than is necessary (and is the reason why I will refrain from doing so in a few sentences time) - we shiver when it is too cold, moan when the sun appears because it's "too hot" and groan when the sun shines at the wrong time of the week (weekends, when everybody is back to work/school, etc.)

So I thought it would be an apt idea to share with you some handpicked images from a range of editorials- a mixture of good/bad weather- of models who are all out in the open air, making the most of their surroundings, whatever the climate. All celebrate the outside in all it's glory and I think that's what the Brits should be doing whatever the weather. So, coat or no coat, get outside and explore. Let me know which are your favourites? Do you prefer the summer or winter? Are you wearing your coat already where you're from?

Anja Rubik for Kurt Geiger

Twitter is soon becoming my favourite and most reliable news source- ever since I downloaded the app on my iPhone, I have been flicking through the feed daily, reading about the latest goings on with regards to The News of the World scandal (mostly tweeted by George Michael) and learning the latest fashion news from the best sources, i.e. LOVE magazine.

This image of the latest face for Kurt Geiger's Autumn/Winter '11 campaign was posted by LOVE earlier today and I think Anja looks perfect. I adored last season's vividly colourful and uber sophisticated campaign and their newest is certainly not a disappointment. I actually thought "Wow" on viewing the image as I just love the 1960s vibe and the effortless sexiness of the entire ensemble. How incredible does she look in those Cruella Devill-esque booties? Which are now on my winter wish list, although I'm not wishing for the sun to stop shining any time soon.

What do you make of the campaign?

LOVE it.

For a couple of weeks now my Dad has been re-decorating our bathroom (it's looking great- cream tiled walls, large cupboards and a big glass shower, although there is still a lot to be done) and today he has been working away with his iPod for company, listening to his music (a mixture of soft rock and alternative bands- The Jam, Joan Armatrading and Elbow...) and one particular song, which is one of his favourites (mine not so much)- Dancing in the City by Marshall Hain. Although, on looking at the album cover, the song of which is part of the Guilty Pleasures compilation CD's, I really loved it, instantly reminding me of a shoot entitled Distracted in the androgynous issue 4 of LOVE magazine.

Superbly styled with a glossy finish, it is expensive and professional looking even with the fun, interesting idea/poses and bright colouring. It's seriously amazing and certainly one of my favourites. I would recommend buying a copy of the issue (covered by Kate Moss and transsexual model Lea T) if you haven't already, just to lust over this shoot and to, as I do, cherish it- it takes pride of position on the top of my magazine stack amongst the issues of Wonderland, ELLE and 10.

Similar in styles- both are glossy and very, very sexy and the finish is something quite beautiful.

Kiss Me Quick

“Kissing-and I mean like, yummy, smacking kissing - is the most delicious, most beautiful and passionate thing that two people can do, bar none. Better than sex, hands down.”

Here comes the summer sun...

I'm beginning to get a little high from all this sun and dreaming about the summer (even the fact that I can leave the house without a coat fills me with glee!) English weather has the means to be very tempremental and very annoying. The slighest speckle of warm sunlight forcing it's way from the clouds means the whole nation strips off, which is often not a pretty sight and you find yourself thinking: "Put it away!" Well, anyway I was hoping to find out what others love about summer so much and their favourite things to do when the sun is shining. Let's start with a drink, shall we?

What will be your summer tipple?

Sweet Pimm's & Lemonade                 Refreshing White Wine                           Fruity Cider

What will you be doing in the sun? (apart from drinking!)

                                                                           Sports in the park
Garden BarbecueSeaside Visit

What would be your ultimate holiday?  (mine is a mixture of all 4!)

                                     Lazy Beach                                                            Hardcore clubbing
                             Backpacking Adventure                                                 Cultural City Break

Who will you be holidaying with?

                                        Family                                                                      Friends
                               Boyfriend/Girlfriend                                                            Alone

What will be your style of dress?

Pretty florals a la Erdem                                Simple monochrome a la Jonathan Saunders

What else will you be doing this summer? Do you have a holiday booked?

Mary-Kate Olsen in Beastly

With the trailers for new film Beastly now being aired on British television (and often too) I thought I spotted Mary-Kate rightly the first time I saw it, amongst the eerie darkness, who is clearly expanding her talents further into film roles after the success of her and twin sister, Ashley's new clothing line, The Row. Starring the latest British actor to appear after his success with I Am Number Four, Alex Pettyfer, (who is certainly easy on the eye, especially with his top off) plays the lead, a man put under an almighty spell by a fellow classmate (Mary-Kate) after he is malicious towards her, leaving his body and face disfigured. I'd rather not give too much away, just in case any of you are planning to see it.

I like films like this; the way they make you think about things that happen to so many people on a daily basis (minus the witch) and it kind of puts certain circumstances into perspective- love is always there no matter what. Cheesy it may sound, but it is true. This is what the trailer made me think of anyway- it made me want to watch it, as it gives out a positive message and an important one at that. Too much is about appearance and vanity and this film shows how a man can lose everything simply because his looks have changed. And later, that when any two people are in love, none of this matters. It's the feeling that counts.

Beastly is in UK cinemas from 18th April. You can watch the trailer here.

What do you think of the trailer? Is it a film you would like to see?
