Let's Go Outside

Although British Summer Time (BST) is not officially over until 30th October (can't quite believe this), the weather in England throughout July before I went on holiday and the majority of August has been absolutely monstrous. Wind, rain, grey skies, cold legs.. the lot! It seems like we have hardly had any summer at all. But, I vow not to hide away my tan and continue to wear summer dresses and sandals as opposed to the coats, jeans and boots the rest of those who have given into the horrible weather have been sporting over the past week the weather has been at it's worst. I'm not sure if you are aware, but the British have a tendency and are historically known to moan about the weather far too much than is necessary (and is the reason why I will refrain from doing so in a few sentences time) - we shiver when it is too cold, moan when the sun appears because it's "too hot" and groan when the sun shines at the wrong time of the week (weekends, when everybody is back to work/school, etc.)

So I thought it would be an apt idea to share with you some handpicked images from a range of editorials- a mixture of good/bad weather- of models who are all out in the open air, making the most of their surroundings, whatever the climate. All celebrate the outside in all it's glory and I think that's what the Brits should be doing whatever the weather. So, coat or no coat, get outside and explore. Let me know which are your favourites? Do you prefer the summer or winter? Are you wearing your coat already where you're from?

Mary-Kate Olsen in Beastly

With the trailers for new film Beastly now being aired on British television (and often too) I thought I spotted Mary-Kate rightly the first time I saw it, amongst the eerie darkness, who is clearly expanding her talents further into film roles after the success of her and twin sister, Ashley's new clothing line, The Row. Starring the latest British actor to appear after his success with I Am Number Four, Alex Pettyfer, (who is certainly easy on the eye, especially with his top off) plays the lead, a man put under an almighty spell by a fellow classmate (Mary-Kate) after he is malicious towards her, leaving his body and face disfigured. I'd rather not give too much away, just in case any of you are planning to see it.

I like films like this; the way they make you think about things that happen to so many people on a daily basis (minus the witch) and it kind of puts certain circumstances into perspective- love is always there no matter what. Cheesy it may sound, but it is true. This is what the trailer made me think of anyway- it made me want to watch it, as it gives out a positive message and an important one at that. Too much is about appearance and vanity and this film shows how a man can lose everything simply because his looks have changed. And later, that when any two people are in love, none of this matters. It's the feeling that counts.

Beastly is in UK cinemas from 18th April. You can watch the trailer here.

What do you think of the trailer? Is it a film you would like to see?

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

After a discussion at the dinner table tonight about who was the most attractive English beauty on viewing the new Lancome advert with Kate Winslet, it got me thinking about my choices and who others think. My sister was adamant that it is Kate (she is utterly stunning, an amazing actress and the English Rose), although Thandie Newton sprang to my mind and I'm completely in love with Emma Watson. My Dad didn't know who Thandie was and as for the other names I thought to be the most stunning; Victoria Beckham, my Dad didn't agree and Keira Knightley, whom I loved with short hair, my Mum strongly disagreed (think she has a problem with that exaggerated pout of hers) but who do you prefer?

Or is there someone else?

For Christmas, please may I have...

It feels like forever since I posted anything on here but with uni deadlines looming, a lap top in repair and a schedule that was completely ruined by the snowy weather, it proved rather difficult to.

But anyway, I'm back and as the deadlines have now passed I thought it was time to really get into the Christmas spirit by sharing with you my Christmas list. Even though I haven't asked for much, as for me Christmas is more about getting together as a family- eating, drinking and generally having a good laugh. But, of course it is rather exciting to wonder what will be waiting under the tree for me to discover when the day finally arrives...

When I saw this jacket on the rail, it really was love at first sight. I'm really into retro fashion and the 1960's- I honestly believe I was born in the wrong era. With all the khaki and grey hues and blocks of black in my winter wardrobe or part of my look right now, this piece is a great way to brighten it all up and make the freezing temperatures that little more bearable.

It is about time there was a good British comedy drama and this is by far the best thing on telly right now that makes my Thursday nights. The cast is amazing and the original format makes for a gripping watch- full of anger, chemistry and mysteriousness that keeps you hooked and leaves you thinking what will happen next. It is not in any way sugar coated, apart from the eye candy that bring the whole series to life. Robert Sheehan who plays Nathan is comically brilliant, is certainly easy on the eye and the ears too with that gorgeously irresistible Irish accent.

This always seems to make a regular occurrence on my Christmas list as it has readily become one of my make-up staples. Every girl has a favourite cosmetic item and this is mine. Applying make-up can sometimes seem like a chore but this just brings out the gal in me and I completely love it.
Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum is my absolute favourite scent and just like the Chanel adverts starring the flawlessly stylish and sophisticated Keira Knightley draw me in, so does the perfume's flawless packaging which proves too hard to resist. It has an unbeatable aroma I adore, to simply spritz over any outfit with the effortless ease and grace Chanel brought to fashion so well and oh so elegantly.

This is one of the ultimate coffee table books I intend to add to my growing collection. My aim it to have an entire shelf full of fashion reads that offer amazing photography and fashion analysis of the highest calibre. This book is not only visually appealing but includes a history of the creation and art direction of Louis Vuitton, accompanied by an analysis of it's reference to architectural design. I simply cannot wait to delve straight into this mammoth of a read.

Starlet, Star Bright

Emma Watson may well be the luckiest girl alive in the world right now. She is rich, stunningly beautiful and intelligent, of course. I don't say it often but if ever there was someone I envy, it would be her without a doubt. She has acted in one of the highest grossing and longest running films of all time, modelled for British fashion mogul, Burberry (plus was front row at the London comeback show)  and graced the cover of the fashion magazine, all whilst studying at an American university. There can't be that much more on the to-do list.

For me, she is one of my favourites and definitely flying the flag for Britain, for all the right reasons. The Twiggy inspired and dazzling cover of December's UK Vogue, channelling her inner 60's icon with poise and elegance, is something Emma does so well with new elfin crop. If you haven't already, check out the issue and let her dazzle you...

LONDON'S CALLING

Now that I'm commuting in and out of London for Uni, recently had a day out in London with my Mum (for the Love Cooking event) and simply for the fact that London is on my favourite places list, I was inspired to post about one of the best fashion capitals in the world. As soon as I am in London I become excited- it sounds cliche but it is where the fashion industry is and where opportunities are hidden. It is electric and exciting, cosmopolitan and crazy- everything a great city should be. I love Brugges, I love Paris, I love Barcelona but London is the best of British and for that I am proud. London simply is the capital for creativity, style and fun, fun, fun!
