Mila Kuins for GQ

Wow, this month has been a very busy one indeed for celebs: SJP for US Vogue, Jessica Alba for allure, Audrey Tautou for Marie Claire UK, Lily Allen for ELLE UK, Emma Watson for Harper's Bazaar UK, Penelpe Cruz for V, Tilda Swinton for W and the stunning beauty (and girl crush) that is Mila Kunis for GQ. I'm guessing the majority of you have heard about the American soldier who asked Kunis to be her date for the annual Corps Ball- in return, she remained completely courteous and accepted the offer. I can't imagine many other actresses would have acted in the same manner- another reson why I like her so much, despite her comedy acting, dress sense and more recently, her status as a cover star. Although there is not much clothing required for this particular shoot, (just a pair of the most amazing platform sandals will do) I still think she looks beautiful and tatsefully so. The cover is particularly fun and cheeky, don't you think?

To read the interview and view the editorial, see here. She co-stars in new film
Friends with Benefits, which is released in the U.K. on 9th September.

Fashion Flashback

1993: Kate Moss
 1st UK VOGUE cover

The year 1993 and one of the most iconic VOGUE magazines, covered by Kate Moss goes on sale in March. Shot by Corinne Day and hair styled by James Brown (also from Croydon), it was to become a career defining highlight after she covered The Face (axed in May 2004) in 1990, aged just 16. Waif was about to take over.

After being shot by Day in the 1990s, a model was born and Moss has now been on the cover of an astonishing number of fashion publications and UK Vogue in particular, a massive 30 times.

You could sell anything fast when that waif face of hers is on it.

Other news from 1993:
  • Audrey Hepburn won an Emmy award for Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn
  • Miuccia Prada launched a menswear line and offshoot line Miu Miu.
  • Girl's magazine Shout first went on sale, as well as Wired.
  • Hocus Pocus, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and the wonderful Bette Midler (see her here on The Graham Norton Show- absolutely hilarious incident beginning 1.43 minutes in- a must see!)

Paris November 2008

Coming to the end of my degree, I have been thinking a lot about the past three years- the opportunities I've had, the people I've met, the things I have seen and done and the places I have been lucky enough to visit. One in particular is Paris, one of my favourite cities. Initially as part of a university trip, myself and three others got a really great deal and so decided to go a day earlier to stay a night for my ex-housemate's 19th Birthday. Whilst we were there we saw La Grande Roue, The Eiffel Tower and The Arc d'Triomphe, drove along the Champs-Élysées (all lit up with blue and gold lights in time for Christmas), sadly drove through the tunnel where Princess Diana died, visited the Louvre, as well as past it's hotel at night, went clubbing in Queen, admired the window display of Louis Vuitton (laden with gold, tiny spotlights and huge LV logos), walked past Fouquet (which you can see in the background during a scene of film Taken) and sipped drinks whilst listening to the mellow sounds of an amazing band at Johnny Depp's exclusive and very private club, Le Baron. But best of all, we visited the Yves Saint Laurent couture house, of which thousands of pieces are kept (stored in huge white pull out cupboards and drawers, each garment is never touched by human hands) and were free to roam the Patrick Delmarchier exhibition at the Grand Palais, admiring his skill as one of the most respected and well-known photographers in the world. So much was packed into just two days but meant for a great time. Here I share with you just some of what we saw throughout our short but very fulfilling Parisien adventure.

N.Y.C. = FUN. FUN. FUN.

After being in England now for a few days after a hectic but nonetheless amazingly fun week in NYC, I am now beginning to feel in the right mindset to blog all about it and share with you some of the pictures taken as I was whizzing around the city in awe of it's sheer vastness and magnitude and didn't want to leave you in the dark any longer with regards to my goings on.

Well, one of the most exciting spectacles we were lucky enough to enjoy was waiting outside (against metal barriers across the road and for 3 hours I hasten to add) the Met Gala (in celebration of the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) for invited stars to arrive. These included Andre Leon Talley, Grace Coddington, Edward Enniful, Suzy Menkes, Colin Firth and wife Livia, SJP, Demi Moore, Renee Zellweger, Madonna, Daphne Guinness, Alexa Chung, Chrsitina Ricci (looking soooo beautiful in Zac Posen), Karl Lagerfeld, Lily Donaldson, Doutzen Kroes, Beyonce, Ciara, Bruno Mars (whose hair is actually larger than he is), Eva Mendes, Salma Hayek, Bradley Cooper, Donald Trump (who was booed by the awaiting audiences), Sir Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, all of whom I was excited to get a glimpse of on arrival. It was a whirlwind of a day which was previously filled with trips to Times Square's Forever 21, Bleeker Street's Michael Kors, Rockefeller Centre, Ground Zero, the 9/11 memorial and St. Paul's Chapel. It was such a great day and only some of what we got up to over last week.

Other adventures included strolling around Central Park, a long awaited dinner in Serendipity, overlooking the views at night from the Empire State Building, appreciating the art in the Museum of Modern Art, viewing the collections of the graduates from Parson's The New School of Design, spotting Elmo, laughing in the M&M shop, imagining the SATC girls whisking down the steps of The New York Public Library, catching the subway from Grand Central Station, admiring the craftsmanship at the His and Hers exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology, being entertained by the Meatpacking District and Soho, drooling over tattoo clad models at V magazine HQ, riding the Staten Island ferry to capture the Statue of Liberty, spotting Essex House (my home town) as well as Macy's, Saks, Madison Square Gardens, The New York Times, The Magnolia Bakery, Tiffany & Co., Christie's, snooping in Bloomingdales and leaving a gorgeous pair of Elie Tahari shoes behind at Bergdorf Goodman.

And to top it all off, dancing in a tiny fun spot known as Snafu and being blown away by the Alexander McQueen exhibition, accompanied by a really great book.

It truly was one of the best weeks of my life and now sitting in my bed trying to make sense of what day it is, I only wish I was back there with sore muscles and tasting the city and it's amazing food all over again with some of the best people I have had the privilege to share the past three years studying with.

Enjoy the pictures. x
